Can you get powdery mildew on lilac bark only- not the leaves?

Thanks for contacting "Ask Extension" with your question about lilac. If your lilac had powdery mildew, it would show up on the leaves. Does your lilac look sick? Did it bloom this year? When did you notice the spots? Send me some close up pictures and I try to identify what you are observing.
