Something's Eating my Eastern Redbud Leaves... #877879

Asked July 19, 2024, 6:52 AM EDT

Hello! I have a happy-seeming Redbud that was planted last fall. It's been vigorous in all this rain, has grown and leafed out beautifully...but now, I see lots of chomps on the edges of leaves. The chomps are round, often many up the sides of leaves. Most of this is happening in the upper leaves, though now it's spreading. It's really noticeable now, not just one or two leaves. Aah! What is this and what do I do? Thank you.

What you are describing is probably insect feeding.  I cannot begin to guess which because there are many, many insects that would leave the same type of damage.  Your tree will be just fine.  Some insects stopped by for lunch and are probably gone by now.  It would take a lot more than just bites out of the edge of leaves to affect the health of your tree.
