Iron to get rid of weeds? #877847

Asked July 18, 2024, 7:43 PM EDT

Is it ok and safe to use liquid iron to kill weeds? I want to remove all the weeds along the north side of the house where they are a nuisance, grow tall every year, and are not an area I would ever plant anything among the existing landscape rocks. I need low maintenance now that I am elderly.

Hi,

Iron-based herbicides work best on very young weeds, and aren't as effective at this time of year. Note that like other herbicides, they have precautions and can only be applied a few times a season.

If you do not want to use conventional weed killers you could try solarization. It may take awhile on the north side of your house, but if you weigh down the plastic so it doesn't blow around or rip it may eventually take care of your problem.

Good luck.
