Would you please identify the black beetle in the attached picture? I've never seen this beetle before.

Hi Dolene and thanks for your picture of the mystery beetle. It looks very much like the dreaded Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB).
Did you by any chance catch the critter? I'd like to get it identified by a professional. Or do you have any other pictures? A side view perhaps?

As you can see from the website above, they are serious and should be reported to the oregon invasives hotline.
However, it may be a close look-alike, the Oregon Fir Sawyer in which case it doesn't need to be reported. If you did catch it , please bring it into the Clackamas County Extension office at
200 Warner Milne Rd, Oregon City, OR 97045. You can freeze it for an hour first if that is more comfortable, but we would like to get a positive ID before we report it.
