Varigated maple tree. Top leaves are turning brown at the edges and curling. Suspect leaf scorch.

That certainly is a symptom of leaf scorch. It can also be a symptom of other maple issues.

A picture of the leaves, the tree, and location in which the tree is growing are good first steps. Also, is the tree watered? Is it growing in a neighborhood? Was soil used to fill in the area? Is the yard fertilized? Is the tree located near a driveway? Any recent construction? Any recent root damage?
Apologies for the 20 questions, but these are all factors that can affect the health of a tree.
