It is a good idea to cut out the iris flower stalks as soon as they have finished flowering. You can also cut down some or all of the leaves at this time, but leaving at least a few healthy leaves for the rest of the summer can be beneficial. This allows the plant to build up nutrients and resources for next year. In the fall, all leaves should be removed.
