North star Cherry Tree #877761

Asked July 18, 2024, 10:25 AM EDT

My approximately 12 year old Northstar cherry tree is exhibiting signs of a leaf fungus. Any recommendations? Thinking of trying Dawn dish soap.

My guess is the tree has some kind of leaf spot disease:

Usually preventative measures (fall cleanup, careful water management, etc.) can manage these diseases, but the wet weather this year has made this more challenging.  At this stage, no treatment is necessary.

And, by the way, dishsoap is not a fungicide. Insecticidal soap is an insecticide (also not a fungicide). It is formulated for insect pests.  Ordinary dishsoap may contain chemicals that can be harmful to your plants. Read here:

Please note that cherries are one of the plants sensitive to soap.
