Two year old Loganberry plants #877754

Asked July 18, 2024, 10:08 AM EDT

HI. I am new to growing cane fruits. My loganberries were planted two years ago, bare root. They produced just a couple of berries this year and do seem to be fairly healthy. My question is, what do I do now. Do I cut off some of these canes and tie them together or just leave them alone. I am hoping to get some fruit next season.

Hi There,

Loganberries are not that common in Ohio. This is neat to know that you are growing them. It may be good to build a T-Trellis and run some wires through them so you can tie the canes to the wires. Another option is to set T-post next to the plants so you can tire the canes up and keep them vertical. I would not prune any canes off yet. You should be getting some fruits next year. Fruited canes can be cut off next year after they produce fruits.

Hope this helps.
