Strawflower disease #877740

Asked July 18, 2024, 8:34 AM EDT

Some disease is killing the strawflower plants in my garden. Do you have any idea what it is? Someone said maybe aster yellows, as I do have leaf hoppers around. I’ve also noticed my China asters and lemon mint monarda plants are diseased too, but not quite as bad. And crocosmia blooms are totally deformed/stunted.

Hi Jenny,

I saw that you posted this same question on the Vermont Veg and Berry Growers Association listserv. I have looped Dr. Ann Hazelrigg, plant pathologist, in on this question (typically commercial growers work directly with the UVM Plant Diagnostic Clinic on issues like this) and we will get back to you soon.

Hi Jenny,

I just spoke with Ann Hazelrigg who said she got in touch with you earlier today via email. If you need anything else, let us know.

Here's the UVM Plant Diagnostic Clinic website in case you need it -- it has Ann's contact info plus the specimen intake sheet should you need to send in something to the lab: https://www.uvm.edu/extension/pdc
