What’s happening to our Northern Pin Oak ? #877669

Asked July 17, 2024, 3:56 PM EDT

Please tell me what to do with the dead, curling leaves and spots on leaves?

Anoka County Minnesota

Expert Response

Based upon what we can see in the photos, two things appear to be affecting the leaves:  oak leaf blister, a fungal disease, and oak leaf galls caused by a kind of midge.

Neither of these usually affect the health of trees and no control is needed.

Thank you for the excellent photos.  We often don't get photos with the detail needed to ID plants or animals or to diagnose problems.
