Planting Cranberry bush beans #877656

Asked July 17, 2024, 3:05 PM EDT

Hi, I’m wondering if I can still plant cranberry bush beans? Will they have time to fully mature and dry out for dry storage? It’s mid July. I live in the Gorge where temperatures typically are 6-9 degrees cooler than Portland. We get high chilly winds starting mid October. Thank you

Thank you for your question, Andrea.  You have a 50/50 chance of their ripening in time.  Your soil is certainly warm enough (https://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/it-time-get-those-green-beans-ground), and you might be able to extend the season using row covers for a while.  Here's a comprehensive OSU Guide to growing vegetables:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/em-9027-growing-your-own

Good luck!
