rye grass #877627

Asked July 17, 2024, 1:20 PM EDT

my husband planted rye grass between the rows of vegetables in our garden this spring with the thought of enriching the soil and keeping down the weeds. Now everything looks yellow, espicially the corn. Is the ryegrass depleting the soil of nutrients needed for the vege's?

Expert Response

Thanks for your question.  I will need some pictures in order to provide an accurate answer.  Specifically:

1).  A picture of the entire garden, or at least most of it.  I need to have an overall sense of its layout.

2).  Individual pictures of the plants that have turned yellow.

Finally, a question on my part.  Have you ever done an analysis of the soil in the garden?   If so, could you please send a copy of the report to us.

Thanks for providing this additional information.
