Help identifying a plant I've not seen before #877625
Asked July 17, 2024, 1:15 PM EDT
Greetings, I live in Frederick, MD. The lacy plant in the photos has not shown up in our yard before. A neighbor thought it might bloom so I've left it for about 2 months. Any help identifying this is much appreciated. With thanks,
Frederick County Maryland

Plant ID relies heavily on flower traits, but it's hard to guess when this plant might reach blooming stage. It resembles Frost Aster (Symphyotrichum pilosum), a native aster species that flowers around September. Maryland is home to a few dozen aster species, and some are hard to tell apart, even when they flower.
