Expert Response

Hi Deb,

This could be one of the foliar diseases or it might be a slime mold. It's likely caused by keeping the area too wet - how often are you running your sprinklers? How long (minutes) are you running them?

If you could measure the output of a typical irrigation cycle, that would be helpful - just put a few cups of the same size out around that sprinkler heads and in the zone (8-10 cups total). Run the system as you normally would and then measure the water collected in the cups. Multiple that amount by the number of days you're irrigating.

Let me know what you find out!

Thanks!

Please collect the output around that head the next time you water - just a few cups and measure it. The area looks a bit wet, so there might be something amiss with that head or perhaps it's a low spot. Maybe shady?
