Holmstrip AV Dying? #877590

Greetings....
1 0f 4 Holmstrup AV's is failing to thrive- yellowing, extrememely thinned leaf bushiness, etc. Does not seem to be beetle problem per se; the three other trees seem to be thriving ok. They were planted October, 2022. Northern Lakeville location, clay soil.
Is there anything that I could do to save it?

I can only suggestion that there is something different with the planting of this shrub. You have clay soil. Does the water pool in this spot? Is it slightly lower than the others? Did it do well until this year? It may be that now we have had rain, that particular spot is the area that holds water. It may be good to dig down and see what is happening with those roots. Arborvitae do not do well with constantly wet roots.
Hello Barbara...
Thanks much for the prompt reply.
Interesting theory on too much h20- it appears that the root flare is about even or a little bit proud (may 1/2" or so) with the surrounding ground. That said, I would feel more comfortable if it was somewhat higher, but I can't get excited about trying to replant the tree at this point. The soil is definitely damp in that area. Possibly put additional soil in the surrounding area but not covering the flare and isolate irrigating in that area?
Thanks much...

I don't know if there is any way you can mound the area around the base of your shrub and encourage water to drain away with man made 'stream beds'. It may be a situation that requires try this/try that. I still think it would be good to dig down and look at the roots to see if they are firm and white or brown and soft.
That will tell you if it is a problem with moisture.
