These have appeared on my deck. I have a Canadian red maple close to my deck. Some branches over my deck. I have been told they may be caterpillar poop. Will they damage my tree?

The picture is out of focus so it is hard to see details.
Could you photograph them again-
Place some on a smooth flat surface, like plain cardboard, ( not paper towels) with a coin next to them for scale?
Please break one apart to see if anything is inside
Do you see any still attached to a tree? ( Binoculars might help if you have some)
These are probably galls of so e type, which are harmless to trees.
