We have been told we have termites. Not in our house but in the woods around our home. The treatment is expensive and I read an article on the extension website that termites are rare in Minnesota. I'm concerned I am being oversold. I have call another pest control company in for a second opinion, but again I'm not sure that is an unbiased perspective. Do you know where I can find a place where I can get an unbiased assesment?

They are rare and when winters were colder none.
How to identify. They are different enough you can do it yourself.

The forestry department at the University may be able to identify them as time permits. Extension no longer has a consumer entomologist on staff. An arborist might also be willing to do an identification.
