Fruit trees #877462

Asked July 16, 2024, 12:35 PM EDT

We bought a property with apple and pear trees. They both have a lot of fruit But it is small. Particularly the apples they are about one to 2 inches in diameter and are starting to ripen. We don’t know the species. It appears that they are not going to get any bigger. Should they? Note the trees have lot of branches on them. They may be overgrown. The pear trees seem to be doing better. Their fruit is somewhat larger. Your Thoughts will be appreciated.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks a lot for the question! Quality fruit production takes a lot of spraying, fertilization, pruning and fruit thinning.

Spraying:

Pruning and Fertilzation:

Fruit thinning: thin fruits to one per cluster next year when fruits are small, like about half inch in diameter.

Hope this helps.
