Karl Forester Issue #877358

Asked July 15, 2024, 4:51 PM EDT

I've asked about this last summer as the grasses came in looking like this from the grower. They came up looking great and healthy in the spring but now suddenly look damaged. Does that seem to indicate an insect problem over a fungal problem? (So odd for Karl Forester to have ANY problems!) I bought about 16 Karl Forester because I love grasses and these were supposed to be relatively maintenance free. I'd like to know specifically what I should treat it with in order to try and save them. I'm typically not a fan of chemicals AT ALL but I can't afford to replace all of these. I'm so disappointed, please help! Many many thanks in advance! Sarah

Expert Response

Good Morning Sarah,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

From viewing your photos, I believe this may be a fungal disease, rust. Please click on the following link from the U of M Extension Yard and Garden website: https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/rust-flower-garden#life-cycle-of-rust-1169462

Please review the information in detail. As you scroll down, you can expand the sections. As it states, it is important that your plants are spaced apart enough to allow for air movement. Water at the base of the plant, if you need to water.

With the cool and wet weather we had, more fungal diseases are appearing.

Good Luck!
