Any hope for my Locust tree? #877319
Asked July 15, 2024, 2:11 PM EDT
I have a locust tree that has been having branches die off and now the crown? center part died off this year. I heard when the crown dies the tree is on its way out. Is there anything I can do to resurrect the tree? If not, what signs do I look for to know when to take it down so it doesn't fall on a house / fence?
On a separate note, there is another tree growing near the base of the locust tree. Do you know what kind of tree this is and whether the tree is appropriate for Northern Colorado?
Thanks!

Hi Bill,
Having a certified arborist come and inspect/assess the tree would be your best course of action. They can look at the overall health, structure, and recommend pruning or other options. This will be especially important if the tree is mature (which it looks like it is) and is near structures. You can find an arborist at https://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist/arboristsearch
As for the seedling tree, it looks to be a type of ornamental cherry in the Prunus genus. Probably planted by birds or other wildlife.
