First, check the soil. It looks like you are using mulch, which is good, but push some aside and dig a few inches into the soil and feel it. Is it soggy wet, is it dry and crumbly? Usually when leaves are dry around the the edges, it's due to too much water or not enough water. There has been a lot of rain lately and if these are planted in an area with poor drainage, that may be the problem.
As for the holes, that is probably due to an insect or a caterpillar. Take a look in and around the plant and you may find slugs or other leaving eating insects.
