Fruit Tree Question #877286

Asked July 15, 2024, 12:07 PM EDT

We have an Apple Tree that we purchased and planted in 2017. I believe at this point it is at maturation. We have treated it for Cedar Rust (i believe) last year but continue to have issues with general decay in some limbs in early spring, and the fruit not getting ripe before it starts to rot on the tree. I have included photos for reference. This is just of the Apple tree, but we also have issues with our Plum trees bearing little to no fruit. The Peach trees are rocking and rolling with fruit this year. Any help is appreciated. Even welcome a visit to our property if deemed necessary.

Expert Response

Tracy,
I would like to get some information from you on the apples.
  • What type or cultivar of apple are the trees?
  • Do you have a spray or management program for the apples?
  • Do you prune the apple trees?
  • Can you place a leaf on a white sheet of paper and send me a photo of the back of the leaf?
  • I would also like a photo of just one fruit laying on its side.
I will contact you after reviewing the pictures.
Regards,
Kim

  • What type or cultivar of apple are the trees?
This Apple Tree is a KinderKrisp Apple Dwarf Supreme
  • Do you have a spray or management program for the apples?
We have used Captain Jack's Fruit Tree Spray
  • Do you prune the apple trees?
Yes, we do, perhaps not often enough?  Guidance on this part is appreciated

I've attached two additional photos of the apple tree.

For reference, we also have a young CandyCrisp Apple Dwarf Supreme (recently replaced with a sapling a year ago), Bubblegum Plum Dwarf Supreme, Intrepid Peach Dwarf Supreme, Blushingstar Peach Dwarf Supreme, Superior Plum Dwarf Supreme.

Please send me a picture of the back side of the leaf and send them actual size or the largest your cell phone will allow. I cannot zoom in on the 2 pictures you sent to see any details.

Hopefully this helps. Or I can drop off samples to the local office if it will help.

Yes, if you can drop off a couple of apples and some leaves at the office, that would be great. I am leaving for today and will be back tomorrow morning. I will be in tomorrow till 3:30 pm. I have already done some research and am hoping to confirm my thoughts with the pictures and samples. Can you bring them by in the morning so I can work on this tomorrow?
Kim Hupman Replied July 15, 2024, 3:00 PM EDT
Absolutely!  If you can confirm the address I can be there anytime tomorrow morning!

Come in the Fairground Rd entrance and keep the racetrack on your right. We will be the single-story brick ranch building across from the grandstand.

Tracy,
I have some answers for you and will email through my email instead of ask an expert.
