Maple Tree Storm Damage #877249

Asked July 15, 2024, 10:07 AM EDT

My maple tree was damaged in Saturday's storm. One of the 4 main branches broke off. We removed the branch but the main tree is torn. What can I do to protect the remaining tree?

Expert Response

Hi Sheryl,

Oh boy, that looks bad. I am not an arborist, they are the true tree experts. In My opinion that tree is doomed. The damage goes straight into the main trunk. I beleive the tree has a very limited life span now. If it was my yard I would plant another tree this fall close to it ( where you want one) so you have another tree established when this one dies.

A tree with a major wound to it's main trunk can't survive.
