Do you answer insect questions? I think my cat got to this rather large insect last night. It stopped moving after I got it to cling to this flower this morning. One small wing on the right appears to be missing and I don't know if the marking on the body is from piercing from the cat or if it's normal. What do you think it is and do you think I have something to worry about in my garden?

Hello -
That is a moth, sorry I can't further identify it. Keep an eye out for caterpillars, they are voracious eaters. If you do find some caterpillars, try to identify them before you kill them. I have not seen many butterflies this year, sadly.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for trying. Is there another section of the Extension Service that we could ask? If you don't know what it is and I can't figure it out, I fear it is a "new" insect without a predator . . . or is there a Federal or State department?

I have been looking for the species of moth, and I believe you have a pandora sphinx moth. https://uwm.edu/field-station/bug-of-the-week/pandorus-sphinx/
They are native to North America.
I hope this fits the picture profile you have for your Moth.
