Cherry tree disease #877207

Asked July 14, 2024, 7:54 PM EDT

I planted this meteor cherry tree last year. It did well last year but this year it hasn't grown well. Now the leaves are starting to yellow. Any idea what might be going on? I planted another cherry tree at the same time and that one is doing well. I live in St Paul and the tree is planted in our yard

Ramsey County Minnesota

Expert Response

The yellow leaves are probably due to a fungal disease. With all the wet weather they are very common this year. The Plant disease clinic can make an identification and diagnosis. Cherry leaf spot is a serious disease but the leaves seem to bright yellow. Several things might be affecting your tree and the more noticeable symptoms are masking another problem. There is a fee to submit a sample but the wrong treatment is a complete waste of money if it doesn’t work.

Thanks for the response. What do I bring in for a sample - a leaf?

Thanks,

Call the clinic and ask for help. They can tell you how many leaves they will need. The phone number is with the instructions for submitting a sample.
