Ice plants help #877204

Asked July 14, 2024, 7:40 PM EDT

We had a huge ice plants that was thriving…suddenly became soggy looking and half of it died. I thought it might have been because of the recent heat but seems they should have loved that. We didn’t change watering our anything else so unsure why it’s made or if it can be revived?

Hi Kaya,

Are you able to send a photo of your ice plant?  Was it just one plant or several plants? How much are you watering it?

Thanks,

Lisa

We have several other ice plants that are doing just fine. This one was thriving like a week ago. It gets watered in that second every other day and has one dip to the area. I thought it may be overwatered which seems to be the likely problem with ice plants but the dying part is not the part closest to the drip and watering hasn’t changed in the two years since we planted it which is why the change is odd. I can’t figure out what the change could be related too!

Thanks so much

Hi Kaya,

Thanks for the photo and sorry to see that!  If you haven't done so, check and make sure the irrigation line hasn't plugged up.  Also was any herbicide applied in the nearby area? (Some herbicides can volatilize/drift on these hot days). Finally any critters that may have nibbled on the roots?

Other than that,  I'm not sure what else might be going on at this point!
