Can I prune down my Douglas Aster when it gets to be about 3 feet tall to make it bush out?
When I first planted them, they got maybe a couple feet tall and were more shrub like and had lots of little purple flowers.
Now they are many singular stems and many are about 3-5 feet tall and haven’t bloomed yet.
I know they spread by rhizomes and that’s ok, but I would like more of them together.

You can prune the Douglas Asters down about one third in early to mid-summer to help promote a more bush like plant structure. Try to prune just above the stem where it looks like it's going to branch.
You could also just pinch the growing tips to reduce the overall height and promote branching.
