Is there something wrong with our tree #877121

Asked July 13, 2024, 8:22 PM EDT

We have a beautiful large tree in our backyard. It appears to be seeping and cracked in the trunk. It has had some damage and lost a limp last year from a storm but we want to be sure we are doing everything to help it stay healthy. Can you tell us if we need to do anything to maintain its health?

Expert Response

Hi Tonya -
It looks as if you have a mature, healthy maple tree there.  The wet area on the tree is actually called "Wetwood".  Here is a link that will explain it to you.  https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/elm/branchesdiscolored.html
I hope this helps.

Wow thank you for your fast response! I’m so happy it means the maple is ok. Trees are so important and so beautiful!
