Scarlet Beetle #877068

Asked July 13, 2024, 11:08 AM EDT

Hello,

My lilies' leaves are full of holes and it appears to be due to the scarlet lily beetle (I've seen and killed a few of them). Is there a homemade concoction I can prepare to get rid of them?

Expert Response

There isn't a homemade solution. If you don't wish to handpick, you can use a pyrethroid (see this article for specific list of insecticides: https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/lily_leaf_beetle_watch_out_for_this_garden_pest) or neem oil on the larvae.

The beetles shouldn't be around for too much longer this season. However, there's a good chance you'll encounter them in Spring.
