Squash Vine Borer Article “Biology and Management of Squash Vine Borer in the Garden” #877037

I recently noticed a squash vine borer moth flitting around my cucumber vines in Hartford, SD. I immediately began looking for eggs and sure enough, I found some! I rubbed off any eggs I could visibly locate and I will take appropriate action including dusting with DE and using Bt spray around the base of the plants. As a longtime master gardener, I like to share this info with others. I planned to include this SDSU Extension article as an expert reference: https://extension.sdstate.edu/biology-and-management-squash-vine-borer-garden. However, I noticed that your photo (figure 4) of the squash vine borer eggs is actually a photo of squash bug eggs. I went to the source for that photo, and it is indeed labeled as squash bug eggs. As I’m sure you know, squash vine borer moths lay their eggs singly rather than in clusters. The shape and color are also different from squash bug eggs. I have attached a photo of the squash vine borer eggs I found. I am not offended if you disagree with my observation, but I thought you might want to correct the photo in the article if you confirm that it is incorrect. Best regards!
