I have caught apparently the same adult groundhog in a live trap for three straight days. To avoid having it return, I think the easy solution would be to release it farther away from my lakeside house. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

Hello,
Yes, taking the groundhog further away may work as many animals having homing instincts for several miles. However, check with your local DNR office for any regulatory restrictions on the transport and release of groundhogs as it may very likely be against the law. The only other option would be to trap and euthanize the animal.
