Tiny black moths in bark of our Douglas Fir #876949

Asked July 12, 2024, 10:52 AM EDT

Hello! We have a large Douglas Fir tree that we sit by in our front yard. We love her but there are tiny black {flies (or) moths - cant tell} that come out of the bark, mostly at dusk. They bite! :/ We use organic products so I am not wanting to spray some terrible insecticide on the tree. Any idea what these little flies are and how we can get rid of them naturally? Thank you in advance.

Expert Response

Hello Nell,

Than you for reaching out. Can you provide a clear, close up photo of the fly/moth? Unfortunately, we cannot attempt to positively identify it without. Once we ID it, we can go from there to see about control methods. One other way of getting a good picture is to capture one in a clear bag, and freeze it before taking a picture.
