Yellow leaves on my Strawberries and Cream tree hydrangea #876901

Asked July 11, 2024, 10:12 PM EDT

Hello, I have a few tree hydrangeas in the yard, including Limelight, Pinkie Winkie, and Strawberry Vanilla. This year the Strawberry Vanilla has some yellow leaves, which I keep plucking off. The other hydrangeas do not. The yellowing started about 4 weeks ago. I really haven't watered any of the trees much because we've had so much rain. My soil is toward the sandy side. The affected tree is in full sun and is a mature tree (6+ years). I've not had this problem before. So far, the flower buds are not affected, just some leaves here and there throughout the tree. The yellow leaves have green and brown spots but no curling or dried edges. See the photo. I'd appreciate any advice!

Expert Response

Hydrangeas, like most deciduous shrubs and trees, are susceptible to a number of leaf spot diseases.

In most cases these diseases do not affect the health of their hosts in the long run.

We can't determine what's causing the spots on your hydrangea's leaves by viewing photos, but the following information addresses your question and may allay your concerns.
