Spider & Egg sack that's fluorescent in sunlight green. #876872

Asked July 11, 2024, 5:52 PM EDT

Spider & Egg sack that's fluorescent in sunlight green. In Jefferson, OH and wanted to kill it, however I didn't when I saw it change color when sun light hit it. When clouds cover sun, it goes back to brown including egg sacks. Tried to ID, comes up as common house spider. House spiders don't turn colors. Didn't have my black light with me, spider in the barn. But this reacted the same way a mineral does under black light. Only in reverse. Color activated on spider and eggs when sun is direct. Indirect light, goes back to brown? Help me identify. Thank you Tina Pope Spider & Egg sack that's fluorescent in sunlight green. Good afternoon and thank you for your question.  You were correct with your initial ID.  This is a common house spider.  Here is a really nice field guide for your reference: https://dam.assets.ohio.gov/image/upload/ohiodnr.gov/documents/wildlife/backyard-wildlife/Common%20Spiders%20of%20Ohio%20Field%20Guide%20pub5140.pdf

Thank you again.

Hi Jen,

Mine does look similar, However, mine turns florescent green as well as eggs. Please review video.

Your link has no pictures of green egg sac's or green florescent color.

Thank you

Tina

Good afternoon, I viewed your video and I'm afraid I am not seeing any green florescence.  Are you able to submit any still photos?  Thank you.
