The best way to establish a dry lot for Mini's or regular horses is to follow the plans for an All Weather Turnout, available through the USDA Natural Resources and Conservation Service. An all weather turnout is constructed so that it drains properly keeping your horses out of the mud. All Weather Turnouts can be used all winter long and in the early spring and late fall when horses should not be turned out on conventional pastures. The expense of building one of these offsets the cost or renovating pastures that can be destroyed during the wet season. You can get written plans from your Counties USDA NRCS office.
