Japanese beetle infestation #876830

Asked July 11, 2024, 1:20 PM EDT

Hello, we have a very large infestation of Japanese beetles on our Apple trees. They are causing quite a bit of damage. What suggestions do you have to get rid of them?

Kanabec County Minnesota

Expert Response

There is not a lot that can be done to get rid of Japanese Beetles, unfortunately. They are voracious feeders.

You can shake them out of the tree and drop them in soapy water. That will take care of some of them.

The only good news, is that just because they went after your apple tree this year, they make go elsewhere next year. A bad infestation one year does not signal a continual problem.

Do not use traps to lure them.
