Peach Tree Tips? #876810

Asked July 11, 2024, 11:36 AM EDT

Hi! My husband and I are having a baby this fall, and we want to plant a peach tree to commemorate her birth. I've gotten some great recommendations from you guys on varieties and care. I'm wondering about timing of planting. I've read that planting while dormant is best - she's due Oct 21. Is this too late to plant, or is it likely okay if the tree is dormant? Thank you!!

Expert Response

Congratulations! Planting any tree in the fall is good. The main issue would be availability of a quality tree. Trees purchased in the fall tend to have been harvested early the previous spring and unless the nursery took care of it - it may not be in the best condition. You may want to see what is available now and save it to plant in the fall. Best of luck
