I have a peach tree which was healthy for the first two years but now seems greatly distressed.

There are signs of peach canker, leaf curl and shoot dieback.

Peach trees are susceptible to quite a few diseases and insects. Without regular sprays, diseases and insects will eventually find your tree and make them look like this.
For healthy tree and good fruit production, regular sprays are required. Refer to this bulletin for a spray schedule:
