Green pepper plant issue #876722

Asked July 10, 2024, 4:34 PM EDT

One of my bell pepper plants is producing peppers with bad spots. See attached photo. Please advise. Thank you!

Expert Response

These symptoms look sunscald or blossom end rot, both of which are caused by environmental stress and not a pest or disease. In this heat wave, providing a little bit of shade for the plant might help it avoid more sunscald, and for blossom end rot, several management tips are included in the linked page. (What actions to take may depend on whether the plant is in a pot or in the ground. A container-grown pepper can be moved into a spot with some afternoon shade, at least temporarily, but one in the ground may need a piece of shade cloth draped over it.)
