We hired a lawn service to fertilize and spray, but I cannot trust them NOT to spray my wildflower beds (under a large tree) as well as a small bed of peonies in my lawn. Two years in a row they have killed wild flowers under my maple tree and severely stressed established beds. I have contacted them more than once about this issue.
I am very uncertain about continuing to use any lawn service.
Do you have any suggestions for evaluating a potential lawn care service? Questions I can ask them in order to determine whether I can trust them in this situation?
Are there kinds of service providers that would be more reliable than others?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Ask them for the names and numbers of current customers and contact them for their recommendation for/against.
My neighbor calls me when her service is coming so I can put burlap tarps over my flowers to prevent herbicide drift from reaching them. Will your service give you advance warning so you could do the same?
Ask your service how they protect plants and do they monitor wind drift when using herbicide sprays.
