How do we kill off or remove fine Fescue grass from our yard? It is spreading each year and has gotten to the point we need to remove it. It looks terrible. We only see it in the front yard but it has spread out to a few isolated patches away from the main patch but still in the front yard. The main grass we have in the front yard is Kentucky Bluegrass.

If you want to eliminate the fescues in your lawn, you have several options. Because fescues thrive in low-fertility soil, Increasing the nitrogen in your lawn can help thin it out, although this will take time. You could also dig it out, use solarization or apply a non-selective herbicide to those portions of your lawn and later reseed.
