Critters on my tomatillo plants #876631

Asked July 10, 2024, 10:47 AM EDT

These things (not sure what to call them) are eating my tomatillo plants. Any idea what they are and do you know how I get rid of the?

Expert Response

You've encountered 3 line potato beetle larvae. Their method of defense is rather gross, as they cover themselves in poop. They don't often reach numbers high enough to cause severe damage. You'd be best to hand pick them off or take off the leaf with the larvae. If you have any nightshade weeds nearby, remove those as they can be alternate host.
