Hemlock Woolly Adelgid #876625

Asked July 10, 2024, 10:13 AM EDT

Hi! It is the second summer living on my property in the Catskills and it looks like we have the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid on our property. I saw that is in an invasive species and we love our hemlock trees, so I wanted to reach out and see if there were any measures I could take to keep it from spreading and / or try to maintain the health of my trees. Thanks for your help in advance!

Katie,
Wooly adelgid is really a problem. If your hemlocks are not big trees, you can spray them, at least semi-annually every year, with insecticidal oil spray. If they are trees too big to reach the majority of their foliage, you would have to engage a professional to treat the trees. That of course could be expensive.

I'm sorry we can't be more helpful. Good luck
