Can you provide some photos? The acorns are probably a stress response possibly from potentially drought stress, or if the sap is dripping it could be that the tree has some type of insect feeding on it. If you see any insects or boring holes in the trunk you can send photos of that.
Even though it is in between houses where the downspouts drain, we have had drought conditions for most of last summer through central Maryland, and now again this summer with the high heat. Supplementing water in times of drought would be beneficial.
