I live in Harford County and have these guys flying around my back porch. They aren’t bothering my family or pets, but have noticed that I’m not seeing the plethora of honeybee’s we typically see in our bee friendly yard.

This is actually a Cicada Killer.
Beneficial and not harmful or aggressive.
They wouldn't be deterring the honeybees though, so there could be another reason why you aren't noticing as many this year.

Thanks Emily! Since they’re beneficial, we’ll leave them be, especially since we’ve started naming them, lol. I think the reason I’m not seeing as many bees is because of the drought. We’re on a well and only able to water the essentials. Our yard is very brown. I’ll keep an eye out for them in my wild flower garden.
Thanks again!
