Hi, thanks for the question.
First, verify that you have bacterial wilt. This can be done with the "string test" or the "water test" as described here (PPFS-VG-11.pdf (uky.edu)). There are other diseases and pest damage that can look similar. This bacterial disease, Erwinia tracheiphila, vectored by the cucumber beetle overwinters in the gut of the cucumber beetle. The only sure way to control this disease is to control the beetle. This isn't easy. It is important to do weed control. Cucumber beetles can infect weeds which can get passed on to other cucumber beetles which can infect your cucumbers. Remove plant debris in fall. Do not compost plants with bacterial wilt. Scouting will help you determine when to act. Handpicking of beetles can be helpful. Mulching can discourage egg laying in the soil. Kaolin clay can be a good deterrent. I hope this is helpful.
