Dying redbud #876386

Section by section limbs of the redbud are drying up and looking pretty dead. Is it canker and, if so, what can we do?

I am wondering if you have a problem with vascular steak dieback. I found this article about it, with instructions on taking a sample for testing. https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/SPES/spes-483/spes-483.html
