Raspberry fruit misshapen #876199

Asked July 07, 2024, 2:22 PM EDT

Our raspberry bush is creating abnormal fruit. It has fruited the last two years, both years the fruit has looked like this. I see no pests on the plant. The leaves are not discolored, misshapen or abnormal. The fruit tastes normal. It was our only raspberry bush last year, this year we planted another raspberry bush and the fruit appears normal

Expert Response

It’s hard to say for certain what this issue is but there are a couple of good possibilities.

It could be tarnished plant bug. To be sure you would have to actually see the moths or the nymphs.

It could also be poor pollination because you had only one plant. Attached is a good overview of how to grow raspberries in the home garden. Raspberries are heavy feeders so be sure to fertilize for a good crop.

Also, depending on what kind of raspberries you are growing, be sure to prune them this fall.
