I have trimmed my spruce trees to about one foot off the ground. I would like to plant a low growing ground cover under them which will require a heavy shade tolerant plant. Can you recommend something that would be appropriate? I am considering something like a Periwinkle or Phlox. Does this sound reasonable, or is there a better selection.
