Tree bark split #876137

Asked July 06, 2024, 5:13 PM EDT

We have a new tree … it’s been planted for one year. It is starting to look split at the bottom with the bark coming off. Do you have recommendations to help it recover?

Expert Response

Hi Jen,

Thank you for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about your tree. Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do to "treat" the split in the tree. However, you can ensure you're following good tree care practices, create a solid mulch ring around the base of the tree to help lock in moisture, and hope for the best. Please see these Extension Garden Notes on tree care and let us know if you have any questions:
